Name: Ingrid Fianza
Profession: Registered Nurse
Why did you decide to pursue this profession?
I’ve always wanted to be in the medical field. My mom was a nurse, too, but she passed away when she was young, so that made me want it more. I told myself I’d be a great nurse someday just like my mom, and I’d continue what she’d started.
What advice do you have for someone starting out in the nursing field?
You committed to nursing school, so do your best. Even after passing your test and becoming a nurse, you still have to do your best each day, no matter how difficult patients can be. Keep in mind that they really are seeking your help, so you have to give them the care they deserve. The most challenging aspect of being a nurse is when patients become rude or demanding, but you have to learn to keep your cool.
What was your most memorable moment with a patient?
One of my patients hugged me and said, “You are very compassionate, there should be more of you. You make patients comfortable, especially because we come to a doctor’s office feeling anxious. I can see in your eyes that you’ve been through something, but you should use it as your motivation to keep going. I will never forget you.” She hugged me again. It gave me chills and made me realize that people can come into your life unexpectedly and impact you in ways you would never expect.
Who is your superhero?
My superhero is my mom. She’d always been there for me, and I still feel she’s just right here besides me, protecting me and guiding me in whatever I do.
